Aberdeen have given Mark Whatley the chance to prove that he’s worthy of a go in the professional game, his trial with us has been confirmed by his Arbroath manager Allan Moore in the Evening Express this week.

Moore says that he ‘wouldn’t stand in his way’ should he impress Derek McInnes, who Moore knows really well and requested the chance for us to take a look at him in a trial capacity, during this spell and we want to bring the midfielder to Pittodrie on a permanent basis in the summer.

Currently Whatley plays part-time with the league two outfit and works as a schoolteacher by day. Obviously a decision to go professional would be his but the 24-year-old has this destiny, to a degree in his own hands – impress Derek and chances are that even though he’s under contract for another year he could be in the SPFL this time next year….

Moore has looked at other players at topflight level, and he didn’t want to be ‘disrespectful’ but he does feel that he’s ‘certainly on a par’ with them and does have the ability and quality needed to progress.

We’ll see.
