Phew, I think that’s the best way to start things after Aberdeen just did enough to see off Shkendija at Pittodrie on Thursday to reach the second round of Europa League qualifying on away goals!

Anyone expecting the Macedonia side to ‘rollover’ in this tie would have been wrong as that wasn’t the case at all with that all important away goal in the first leg making the difference as that one-one draw meant the nervy nil-nil draw on Thursday was enough to see us through to a second qualifying round against Croatian side Rijeka.

Shinnie and McLean both went close to giving us some breathing room in the first half with effort with Pawlett denied what would have been a stunning, and fitting winner, by the bar and a tip off the finger from the ‘keeper from all of 30-yards.

We had debutant Liverpool loanee Ward to thank though in the end as the ‘keeper pulled off a couple of good saves including a fine save to deny Ibraimi what probably would have been the winner for Shkendija and sent us crashing out!

The main thing is we’re thought to the next round but we’ll have to step it up against a side that pushed eventual winners Sevilla all the way last season….
