Aberdeen are now assured of European football next season, which we basically knew was the case anyway, and even though it’s still highly unlikely that Celtic will falter we closed the gap on them to five-points again but they’ve also got a game in hand.

We did our part though with a one-nil win over Dundee United at Pittodrie on Saturday, with what was the only Premiership fixture played that day.

The only goal of the half, indeed the game, came in the first half with Rooney’s (39) impressive season continued as he bagged his 27th-goal for us, when finishing off Reynolds’ cross with half time approaching.

Reynolds didn’t give up on Robson’s freekick, which Fojut felt was going out, and this allowed him to cross into Rooney who did the rest as he became the first player since Duncan Shearer in 1993 to score this amount of goals for us in a season.

A second could have come but when it didn’t Muirhead had a chance to draw Dundee Utd level but Brown kept him out and even when we played the final 20-minutes with 10-men, when Robson saw red against his former side with the referee felt that and elbow incident involving Telfer warranted his sending off, it made no difference.

Incredible we’re now 22-points ahead of Dundee United, who came into 2015 having been a mere three-points adrift of us!
