A dangerous time ahead for all at the Dons with ten players out of contract at the end of the season and the manager also coming to the end of his deal too.

The good news is that most are giving off the signs that they wish to stay at Aberdeen but as always in football, that means nothing. The players whose deals are expiring include many first team instant picks that Calderwood would be gutted to lose and while the signs are that nobody is seeking a move, the poor start to the season might convince some it`s time to move on.

Michael Hart, Barry Nicholson and Chris Clark are the most pressing issues needing dealt with as they are sure to attract interest but Jimmy also has established stars such as Jamie Langfield and Derek Soutar, Richie Byrne and Zander Diamond, Chris Maguire, Lee Miller and Steve Lovell also waiting to win or receive new deals.

There doesn`t as yet appear to be a clamour for our soon to be free stars but keep it quiet and hopefully we`ll keep the good ones for a while longer yet.

Jimmy Calderwood is underway with his players contract talks and although Michael Hart`s have presently stalled, he`s hopeful of sealing the signatures of some of his other prized possetions.

He told Reds Online, ‘Willie has also spoken to Barry Nicholson’s agent and Chris Clark’s agent, and I would expect further dialogue between the parties this week now we have the international break.’

Would it be a travesty if any of these players left or does Jimmy need to get in a higher calibre of personnel?
