Good news ahead of Saturday`s big kick off with Barcelona probably handing Aberdeen an unexpected advantage after the Arabs 1-0 loss to the Catalan giants.

With United trying so hard to be a match for Ronaldinho, Henry and Co, they`ve pushed themselves so hard that one of their top midfielders, Mark Kerr, has torn a calf muscle which should keep him out the United team for about six weeks.

This little boost is probably not as significant as the possibility that the man who impressed Thierry Henry, United captain Barry Robson, may also be unable to feature due to the fact he was hit square on his beak by a Livingston trialist during a friendly and now has a suspected broken nose.

Jimmy Calderwood will be delighted if United can`t field Robson as he is a perpetual pest to the Dons and it`s obvious Jimmy agrees with Barcelona`s new French signing because the Dons boss has been rumoured to have tried to sign him on a couple of occasions.

Saturday`s game is of huge importance to both clubs as they strive to get early points on the board but also because United and Aberdeen will be two of the major contenders looking for the best they can realistically hoe for prize of being first runner-up to the Old Firm this season according to Jimmy Calderwood who told RedWeb,

‘After finishing in third spot last season teams will be out to knock us off our perch.

‘Sides like Hearts, Hibs, Kilmarnock and Dundee United will all be looking to get into that position.

‘But it is up to my players to keep them at bay.’

And Jimmy reckons they can as he has been instrumental in improving his Aberdeen team each successive year and he has even seen progress from this time last year already.

He continued ‘There has been a real change in the players over the last season or so,’.

‘Now they all know that they are part of a good team and have that belief.

‘That has made them winners and we will need that in the new season”.

veryone does Jimmy and soon we will see if the new players brought in can add to the quality already at the club and if not bringing a new ‘keeper in was the correct decision.

It`s gonna be another epic season to be a Dons fan with some major ups and downs a long the way.

See you in the South Stand!!
