Aberdeen are not considering going down the Inter Toto route as currently they are looking at hooking up some high profile friendlies to prepare for the new season.

The Dons have been invited to take part in a tournament in Egypt where they would play against the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Crystal Palace but Jimmy has also been in Holland looking at possible fixtures against some of their top clubs.

The Egypt venture though seems to have the greater draw at the minute however as it promises to be an all expenses paid tour and the Dons will also have the chance to play in the brand new 80,000 capacity Borg El Arab Stadium, which is situated 50 kilometres west of Alexandria.

Calderwood spent part of this week in Egypt before flying to Dublin for the Bohemians friendly but went Egypt not to top up his tan as some may have thought but to look at the standard of facilities and to speak to the tournament organizers

After the scouting mission he said: ‘I was very impressed by what I saw out there.

‘The new stadium is magnificent, one of the best in the world.

‘The organisers are confident the 18,000 capacity one in Alexandria would be sold out if they played the tournament there.

‘They are planning to move it to the new stadium and expect crowds of around 40,000 for the games. It would be a great experience for some of our younger players to get the chance to appear there.

‘The tournament will also be high standard, with Wolves, Palace and the Egyptian league champions, and a team from Qatar involved as well.’

It is likely that Aberdeen will end up going to Egypt, it would raise the profile of the club as well as suit the financial situation and give them the stern pre-season needed but Jimmy`s history in Holland and the high standard of opponent there means there is also a case for heading in that direction come summertime.

Calderwood said: ‘We’ve been offered some decent games in Holland as well, against the likes of Utrecht and Twente Enschede.

‘But the training facilities I would have preferred there are unavailable.

‘You also have to take the financial aspects into consideration as well.

‘I will be discussing things with the rest of the coaching staff and Willie Miller while we are in Dublin.

‘I hope to have made a final decision by Monday, but I was very impressed by what the Egyptians.

It`s also a good bit sunnier there for those who are prone to a spot of sunbathing eh Jimmy?
