Your summer has been planned out as Jimmy Calderwood reveals the pre-season matches he hopes will have his troops primed for the 4th of August SPL kick off.

As ever, Jimmy has pencilled in a mixture of tough Highland League sides before heading out to the exotic tournament in Egypt to face Jackie McNamara`s old Wolves team mates and Crystal Palace amongst others.

It`s going to be a varied but intense programme that will test the full squad and give the fans, as well as the coaching staff, a look at the new players recently brought in.

One of those new players is likely to be Dutch striker Robert Fik who it seems has ironed out his personal problems so now Calderwood is confident that he will sign an amateur contract with Aberdeen, joining Jackie McNamara, Lee Mair, Jeffrey De Visscher and Jonathan Kurrant as Dons new boys.

Jimmy explained the thinking behind the varied programme and revealed that there is much more to the players pre-season than just these matches.

He said, ‘There are three aspects to the games we have planned.

‘Firstly, we like to do our bit to help the Highland League teams and, particularly, the players who have been awarded testimonials by their clubs.

‘They deserve the honour and I’m always happy to provide the opposition whenever possible. By playing the games close to home it will also give our supporters a chance to see the new faces.

‘We also know we get a good test against the teams from the Highland League – there’s always the right mix between local rivalry and the friendly spirit you hope for in pre-season games.

‘You want these matches to have a competitive edge but there’s a fine line. Teams know we won’t be back if that line is crossed.’

The game against Cove is a testimonial for captain John Brown while the fixture at Buckie will honour Paul Lamberton.

Calderwood said: ‘I will be putting out strong sides from the first game to the last in pre-season.

‘We have a very fit squad who all follow their fitness programmes over the summer break and there is no question of any of them needing to be eased into it.

‘There will be opportunities for everyone to get some playing time under their belt before we go out to Egypt.’
