Scott Severin will already have a couple of games under his belt as the official Aberdeen FC captain by the time the team boards the plane to fly out to the Egypt tournament.

Seve was named earlier today as first team skipper ahead of some stiff competition from the likes of Jackie McNamara, Chris Clark, Barry Nicholson and Michael Hart and no doubt Seve will be wanting to be stood holding his first trophy as team leader aloft at the end of it.

Today he also found out some of who he and his team mates will have to beat to make that a reality as Jimmy Calderwood told the Evening Express of the challenges that await the team once they fly out on July the 16th.

Jimmy revealed, ‘Maritimo is one of the clubs we will face along with two Egyptian sides. Teams from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates will also be involved as we will play four games over in Egypt.

‘There will be two groups, with a final and a play-off for third and fourth place.

‘If we do not reach that stage we still have another game against an Egyptian league team scheduled.

‘All our games will be played at 9pm so the heat should not be a factor.’

C.S. Maritimo finished 11th of the 16 teams who compete in the Portuguese Liga and the team from the island of Madeira will be best known to British football fans for forcing Rangers to a UEFA Cup penalty shoot out in the 2003/4 competition and although they lost that, they`re biggest claim to fame was beating Leeds United when they were one of England`s top teams.

The only notable player they have currently is Luis Oliveira who was in England with Chelsea for a few years although he did only figure a handful of times for the first team and perhaps also the fact that ex-Motherwell player Mitchell Van der Gaag is now back as a coach with the reserve team of his former club.

It`s still unclear who exactly the rest of the teams taking part are but we`ll bring you up to date as soon as more information is available.
