Jeffrey De Visscher joins defenders Lee Mair, Jackie McNamara and Jonathan Kurrant as Jimmy Calderwood`s signings for next season but unlike the other additions who will be entrusted with keeping the back door locked, Jimmy hopes Jeffrey can be the man that can prise open the defences in the SPL and more ambitiously Europe.

alderwood has already given Jeffrey his orders and it seems to be mission accepted as the 26 year old signed a two year contract after becoming a free agent from newly promoted De Graafschap.

e Visscher said in his first interview since putting pen to paper, ‘The manager told me at our first meeting that he wanted me to help increase the creativity in his side’s play.

‘He says I will be encouraged to do that by using my skills to run at players and take them on as opposed to passing the ball.

‘That was a big attraction because it’s the Dutch way and the way I like to play football.

‘Fans want to see goals and exciting attacking play and I’m sure I will be able to make a positive contribution.’

‘I couldn’t agree terms with my club so I told my agent to find something else but the search ended immediately when I heard Jimmy wanted to take me to Aberdeen.

hilst none but the most ardent followers of world football will claim to know much about him, Calderwood certainly should which could mean that Jimmy believes De Visscher`s character will blend with the existing squad which could be just as important as his skills after the new wingers press conference revelation.

‘He used to be my neighbour in Holland, so knows me very well and has seen me play many times over the years.

‘Jimmy is well respected in Holland and Aberdeen are still a famous name over there, so it was an easy decision.’

‘I made my mind up after being invited over to see Aberdeen beat Kilmarnock 3-0 a couple of weeks before,’ he said.

‘The stadium is great, the city is beautiful and everyone at the club made me feel welcome.

‘Aberdeen making Europe after that is a bonus because I would love to test myself in those sort of games.

‘But I had already set my heart on coming to Scotland because I know it is the right move for me at this stage of my career.’

I spoke to Scott Booth and he informed me that Aberdeen was a very exciting place to play football and with the UEFA cup spot this year I feel its an exciting time to be joining the club.

I hope to bring a lot of assist to the strike force at the club and also hope to make a few goals for myself!’

C certainly seems to have faith in his new boy as he turns his attention to creating goals rather than the fundamentals of preventing losing them in a bid to win back fans and push the team onto greater successes.

We’ve been accused of lacking a bit of flair at times, despite making it to the Uefa Cup,’

‘De Visscher is certainly capable of putting that right.’

‘Jeffrey normally plays on the right, but can do a great job on either wing because he is very direct and causes full-backs all sorts of problems,’.

‘He also scores goals, he got 10 for his club last season, so I’m sure he will help to raise the entertainment level.

‘The arrival of De Visscher will also allow me to use Jamie Smith in a more central role or even push him further forward.

‘It gives us the chance to be far more flexible when it comes to putting opposing defences under pressure.’

Willie Miller added ‘We’re glad to announce that Jeffrey has today signed a 2 year deal.

Jeffrey will be an added dimension to our squad. He is someone that we believe will be able to entertain the fans. Jimmy Calderwood has scouted very well and has used his contacts in Holland to the club’s advantage’
