The fixtures are finally out and from Aberdeen’s point of view, on paper, a relatively easy start. In the past 4 seasons, Jimmy Calderwood’s time in charge, we’ve started at home once – to Rangers to make up for it, and away on the past three occasions. But, this time we were granted the wish of an okay home game at home to ‘local’ rivals Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Meanwhile, Celtic get their typical beginner’s mode start at home to St Mirren, Rangers kick off away to Falkirk, Dundee United introduce Hamilton to the SPL on a Monday night and Hearts will start at home to Motherwell, who of course are playing in Europe this season.

In our first 5 games we meet Inverness at home, Motherwell at Fir Park, Rangers at Pittodrie, St Mirren at Love Street and Hamilton in Aberdeen after the international break. We will only get one chance to silence the Ibrox hoodoo on 22nd November although we meet Celtic twice at Parkhead, once being the final game before the split.

In my opinion it’s a good start. Already suffering from pre-season syndrome feeling we can win the league, I’m expecting at least 10 out of the first 15. Forget that though, we should be aiming for 15/15.
