Earlier today some bookies closed their books on manager Derek McInnes quitting Aberdeen.

With some media getting carried away with the ‘shock’ others pointed out it was utter nonsense.

With Ladbrokes receiving a number of bets on his imminent resignation, Gordon Strachan was soon installed as 4/1 favourite to replace him but ignoring all that nonsense, the club earlier tonight felt the need to issue a statement.

‘The club can confirm Derek McInnes remains the manager of Aberdeen Football Club. The various rumours which have been circulating this afternoon on social media are completely without substance or foundation and we would question the motivation of those individuals looking to unsettle the club. Derek is fully focussed on preparing the squad for our important match against Ross County on Friday evening. The club will not be commenting further on this matter.’

The Daily Record earlier this afternoon quoted a source close to McInnes who said of the rumours.

‘Sometimes it feels as if the bookies are trying to create a market or stir up a bit of interest. There is absolutely no reason to suggest that Derek’s time at Aberdeen is coming to an end.’

Questions have to be asked of who exactly was so confident today he would be walking to lay money on it?
