Aberdeen’s Daal needs consistency

Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood has told Dutch striker Dyron Daal that he must be more consistent if he is to win a place in the starting line-up.

Daal, 23, is playing at Pittodrie on amateur terms and, while he has done well when he has appeared for the first team, Calderwood has been less impressed with his performances for the reserves.

Calderwood told the Aberdeen Press and Journal: ‘Every time we start thinking about giving him a chance, he does not impress in reserve games and has to be more consistent at that level as forwards aren’t just judged by how many goals they score. They need to contribute in open play as well.

‘Dyron has a habit of scoring goals, which is a good habit to have, but he needs to offer more overall to have a chance. If he had been doing the business in the reserves, he might have had his chance by now.’

However, Calderwood admitted he has been asking himself how long he can give misfiring strikers Lee Wilkie and Darren Mackie – although he said the pair will keep playing ‘at the moment’.

Miller and Mackie will have the chance to rediscover their scoring boots against the Arabs at Pittodrie on Saturday (Oct 21).
