Sir Alex Ferguson yesterday showed that despite his immense success in England with Manchester United, he still keeps track of events off the field in Scotland and in the city where his management career really began too hit the serious heights he`s now accustomed to.

Sir Alex has been a staunch supporter of the Labour party, due to his working class upbringing, and has stood by those hard graft principles he learned on the streets and workshops in Govan as he has gone about his task of making Manchester United the biggest club in the world.

ormally he backs Labour as a whole in Scotland but yesterday he wished to publicly back Lewis MacDonald, the Aberdeen candidate who will be most likely facing his toughest competition form the ever-growing SNP party for the Aberdeen Central office.

he man who has won the most trophies of all European managers ever should know what he`s talking about when he says,’Leadership is about being willing to take the hard decisions and able to take the right decisions.

That is what Aberdeen needs and that is why I am backing Lewis MacDonald.’

e added: ‘Labour has always stood by Scotland.’
