With Robert Fik snubbing the Dons to remain in his homeland, Jimmy Calderwood, undeterred, has again returned to the country where he spent so much of his playing and managerial career to find a replacement.

The name of Arafath Heuvel may not be one that immediately has Dons fans rushing to renew their season books or get his name on their shirt but Jimmy is optimistic the player who plays in the Dutch amateur leagues with De Treffers can do a job for his team.

Heuvel is a 31 year old centre forward who has played at decent levels before with Emmen and Groningen in Holland and was over in the UK playing with Colchester during the season of `98 but his time there was largely unsuccessful due to injury.

He has since slumped down the leagues because of his health troubles but is keen to return playing at a good standard and intends to show the Dons management team that he is capable of doing a job for the club during the Egypt tour and the rest of the month he has here on trial which begins when he arrives on Monday.

Calderwood told the P & J of his latest hopeful and why he thinks he could be a useful addition.

Jimmy said, ‘Arafath is a player who has a good pedigree and was well thought of in his home country when he started out in the game.

‘He has struggled with injuries before, but he feels he is over those problems now and I want to take a look at him over an extended period.

‘By coming to Egypt with us he will have a good opportunity to show how he could fit into the squad.

‘Arafath can play as a striker, but also out wide and it is as a left winger that I’m most interested in him.

‘He is past 30 now but I’m more interested in ability than age.’
