With no match this weekend due to Aberdeen`s early departure from the Scottish Cup, the Dons have arranged a friendly with Bohemian FC in Dublin on Friday as the home side look to prepare for the start of the Eircom League which kicks off on the 9th of March.

This is a bit of a revenge mission as the Dons were knocked out of the UEFA Cup at only the qualifying stage in the 2000/ 2001 season and became the first Scottish side to lose in competitive action against Irish opponents in what went down as one of the clubs` most embarrassing results ever.

The Dons lost their home leg 2-1 but not even a 1-0 win in Dublin was enough to stop them crashing out. Bohemians then went on to lose 3-2 on aggregate to FC Kaiserslautern in the next round and the Germans went on in the tournament to beat Rangers in the third round 3-1 on aggregate. They marched on to the semi finals where they were thumped by CD Alavés Vitória 9-2 over two legs .Alaves then lost the memorable final 5-4 to Liverpool in what was regarded as Gary McAllister`s finest match. A less spoken about fact is that the Dons had met Bohemians in the UEFA Cup in 1987. That time Aberdeen were huge favourites as the team consisted of many internationalists but still could only draw 0-0 and then win 1-0 at Pittodrie to see off their Irish challengers. The Dons then, as usual, went out the competition on the away goals rule, Feyenoord getting the vital away goal at Pittodrie then winning in Rotterdam one nil.
