Aberdeen have confirmed the details of former captain Russell Anderson’s new behind the scenes role following his retirement.

His retirement was well covered here.

The statement from the Official Site confirms that our former skipper will now begin life as the club’s Business Development Executive in June.

The job will entail a mix of corporate engagement which will see him account managing as well as sustaining and building new client relationships, and his role will also see him involved in the development of longer term projects as they relate to a new training facility and the stadium itself.

‘A key element of this new role will be to support the expansion and delivery of AFC Community Trust initiatives, in particular the Russell Anderson Soccer Academy, which will now operate within the AFCCT programme of activities. Russell will be a figurehead for the Trust as they strive to continue ‘to provide support and opportunity to change lives for the better.’

He will also continue to have a match day presence in an ambassadorial role which will see him involved in a number of behind the scenes match day duties at Pittodrie, and he will also take up a contributory role with the new RedTV Platform for the coming season as it relates to news and features delivery and also match day commentary duties.

This is of a course a newly created role for him and Vice Chairman, George Yule added.

‘Given Russell’s qualities in leadership, his ability to engage at all levels, his standing both at the club and in this area, we believe these ingredients will allow us to develop a future career at the club for Russell off the pitch.’
