Jimmy Calderwood takes his on form side to Dunfermline on Saturday well aware that the Pars are on a high from the introduction of their new boss, Ulsterman Steven Kenny and the 2-1 victory over Dundee United last week.

Calderwood knows that his old team have had a boost as a team normally does when a new man is put at the helm.

He said ‘It is always the same with players – they get a massive lift when a new manager comes in. I always see that as a slight on the old manager, but unfortunately it happens. Dundee United have had a lift since Craig Levein came in and I’m sure it will be the same at Dunfermline.

‘I read that the new manager was in with the players at half-time on Saturday so he obviously wanted to get involved straight away. I’m sure he will make changes for Saturday and even different training methods can freshen things up at a club.

‘It could be the worst time to play them – but we won’t find out until Saturday. Looking at it the other way, we’re on a good run so it could be a bad time for them to be playing us.’

Calderwood was also boosted by the fact that Dyron Daal should be available for selection if required but Darren Mackie will be hoping that his hat-trick for the Dons reserves in a 5-2 win over Caley reserves will keep him above Daal in the pecking order.

Daal has been out since breaking his hand in a reserve match in October but Jimmy watched him train yesterday and insists Daal is ready for action again.

Jimmy said ‘Dyron did well in training and his attitude is always excellent. As usual there was a lot of contact. In his position he has to put up with pulling and shoving, even in training, and he had no problem with that at all. Dyron has been working hard with John Sharp while he has been out, so there’s no problem with fitness. The cast came off on Monday and a bandage has been put on in its place.

‘He can go straight in if required because he has kept himself in good shape. He’s available for selection this weekend, although it’s more likely he will play in the reserves next week before coming back for the first team.’
