Lets make no bones about it Aberdeen have a fight on if we want to extend our European adventure past the second qualifying round of the Europa League against Rijeka, the first leg of which is of course played tonight.

Positively, he’ll be a massive miss though, we know we’ll be missing only Mark Reynolds after his shoulder injury in our first round qualifier with Shkendija, an injury we also know will keep him out for three-months.

That aside Derek McInnes has a clean bill of health for everyone else as we play at the Stadion Kantrida.

McInnes has told the BBC we’ve got ‘a structure’ and ‘a way’ we play but also knows we’ll find it tough going to keep Rijeka at bay for 90-minutes, technically 180-minutes over two-legs.

‘We have a structure and a way of playing that helps keep the opposition at bay, but it can’t just be 90 minutes of that.

‘They are very aggressive in attack, they support quickly and get bodies forward.

‘Good players like that will punish mistakes, so we need to keep our concentration levels up.’

We need to keep it tight but the Dons also, realistically, need to come away with an away goal – one at least – with this also something that he’s looking for and feels we can manage this.

As were a week further on in our pre-season bid this will make a different too, that being said the Croatian side are further along this road mind as their domestic season is already under way!

A tough ask, but as said previously, if we’ve accepted we can’t come through this tie – which, hard as it’ll be, we can – then why bother!
