Aberdeen have completed the signing of defender Dan Smith and Dutch striker Dyron Daal.

Smith, 19, signed a three-year deal after a string of new signings at Sunderland saw him fall down the first-team pecking order.

The fee for the player, who played five times for the Black Cats last season, has not been made public.

The Dons have a defensive crisis at present, so Smith’s signing has not come a moment too soon. Russell Anderson, Karim Touzani, and Michael Hart (Achilles) are all rated doubtful for the St Mirren game later today (Saturday, Aug 19) meaning Smith could be in the starting XI for the lunchtime encounter.

Former FC Utrecht attacker Daal, 21, has signed on amateur terms until the end of the season due to Dutch regulations surrounding amateur players. He had been playing lower-league football in Holland since leaving Utrecht.

Daal could also be available for the match at Love Street.
