Aberdeen’s season gets underway tonight, it’s an earlier start than most but we’ll be hoping it’s a worthwhile one, as we head to Macedonia for our Europa League first round first leg tie with Shkendija.

This is a game that we’ll ‘hope’ to win but I don’t think anyone will be ‘expecting’ a win as we can’t take them for granted!

Positively we have a fully fit squad to select from with Derek McInnes confirming ahead of the tie at the Philip II Arena we’ll be able to include Kenny McLean after he recovered from injury sustained in last week’s pre-season win over Brechin.

The summer signings Graeme Shinnie, Paul Quinn, Danny Ward and Joe Nuttall have all travelled and could all potentially make their Dons debuts.

As for Shkendija they’ve got new signings of their own to call on. Forward Besart Ibraimi and midfielder Ferhan Hasani are both fit and available.

We’ll only be halfway through the tie of course whatever the outcome tonight with next Thursday’s second leg at Pittodrie, all being well we’ll be well on our way to victory anyway, deciding who will take on Croatian side Rijeka in the second qualification round.

First things first though let’s, as the cliché would say, ‘take it a game at a time’ but a Dons win tonight would be very welcome…. Can we get it?
