With the excellent job Craig Levein is doing at Tannadice Jimmy is glad he can`t call on Aberdeen`s top scorer to further help his cause.

It`s been well documented that Darren Mackie was offered the chance to join United during the last summer transfer window and turned them down. Darren`s decision to stay and fight for a starting jersey pleased his manager and The Red Baron is now one of the first names on the team sheet and has caught the managers eye at national level too with his inclusion in the B international squads.

Calderwood said of the man who will be charged with putting their New Firm rivals to the sword,

‘I’m just glad Darren is in my plans rather than lining up for Dundee United, which could have been the case,’ said Calderwood.

‘He’s been in really good form for us this season and is a joy to work with.

‘Darren is now a huge part of the team, which is why I’m particularly pleased he turned down the chance to move to United.

‘I was away at the time they were showing an interest when the Miller deal was going on, so I phoned Darren to talk things through.

‘But there was no hesitation on his part at all – he only took 30 seconds to knock them back, which was a great boost.’

Another man with a United connection, Craig Brewster, has a bit of a score to settle with his former employers and players. Again, Calderwood is delighted to have the Ex-Arabs boss in his ranks and believes if he had stayed free from injury, he`d still be bossing the Terrors.

This will be the first time Brewster has lined up against the team he won the Scottish Cup with as an Aberdeen player and Calderwood knows better than most the quality Brewster brings, going as far as to say, ‘With all due respect to Barry Robson, Craig was probably United’s best player when he was there but he wasn’t fit.

‘Had he played they wouldn’t have had the problems he encountered and I am sure he would still be there.

‘He gives a team so much on the field and he can hold the ball up and give the defence a chance to push out. When he was injured, United lost a major part of their team.
