Good news for Aberdeen ahead of this weekend`s vital clash with Celtic as Hibs have declared themselves totally committed to beating their Edinburgh rivals Hearts on Saturday.

As the great rivals kick off at 12.30, Aberdeen could have already qualified for Europe prior to their 3pm kick off at Parkhead if the Easter Road side can get a win at Tynecastle.

Ivan Sproule, one of the main Hi-bees danger men has stated that whilst he knows there is nothing to play for in the SPL, this match is still very significant to all of John Collins` team.

Sproule said, ‘It’s a big game. Hearts have Europe to look for so it’s significant for them but it’s also a big game for us because there is a lot of pride at stake. There is plenty to play for and I’m sure it will be an entertaining derby because they all are. Hearts came here last time and won but we have beaten them already this season and it’s pretty even.’

It would be tremendous if Aberdeen did not have to beat either of the Old Firm to guarantee third place and I`m sure Calderwood would welcome that situation but if they still have to come three o`clock on Saturday, there is no doubt Jimmy and his boys will be well fired up to achieve it off their own backs.

With Hibs having already won a trophy this year, it would cement a good season for their fans if the Jambos were left with nothing to show for all their money and resources. Not qualifying for even the UEFA Cup is a huge drop from last seasons high of winning the Scottish Cup and achieving a Champions League place by coming second in the league.

Hibs haven`t had great results recently and surprisingly lost 1-0 at home to last week despite creating numerous, excellent chances but the capital derby is a strange beast and with the amount of match winners they have at their disposal, Ivan Sproule and his pals could well do the Dons a massive favour.

There will be no doubt that Hibs and their fans would love to give the Dons that backhander.
