Jonny Hayes, having helped Aberdeen get back to winning ways in the New Firm derby win over Dundee United on Saturday has hit back at the Dons detractors.

The Evening Express carries quotes with Hayes insisting ‘rumours’ and ‘rubbish’ being spouted about the Aberdeen dressing room not being united is unbelievable and completely untrue.

Ryan Jack, ahead of the two-nil win at the weekend to end the poor run of Aberdeen form, had already dismissed suggestions of and disharmony and most definitely ‘bust ups’, with Hayes following suit.

He says people are just looking to ‘take the Dons down’ by making this up.

‘Some people are against us and trying to take us down. A few weeks ago the manager told us that we are now targets and people might want to say some bad things about us but we cannot let it affect us.

‘I talked to a good friend of mine who is a life-long Aberdeen fan about it a few days ago.

‘He talked about the amount of rubbish and rumours he has heard. Some of it is so unbelievable especially when I know how close that dressing-room is and how well we all get on.

‘For things to come out like that, you don`t know where it comes from.’

The winger added it’s a ‘brilliant dressing-room’ with everyone ‘really good friends’ with this kind of camaraderie not something he’s come across before as literally the whole squad can go out together and have ‘a good laugh’ so what’s being said is taken with ‘a pinch of salt.’

What this will ultimately do is bring the squad even closer together!

On the topic of Hayes he’s been spoken about by Derek McInnes, also in the Evening Express, with him of the opinion the 28-year-old can’t be too far from Republic of Ireland boss Martin O’Neill’s thoughts.

Hayes, like his Aberdeen teammate Adam Rooney – who was cut from the initial squad selected, has been backed by his Dons boss to force his way into O’Neill’s plans if he keeps performing and, most importantly, can get ‘among the goals’ too.

‘I wouldn’t be qualified too much in where Republic of Ireland are in terms of left wingers.

‘However, I certainly don’t think Jonny will be far away and if he can get among the goals then you never know.’
