Aberdeen found out this week Hearts would be the opposition in the Scottish Cup, which to put it mildly, could have seen ‘an easier tie’ dished out, you suspect the Jambos feel the same to be fair!

Derek McInnes has reacted to this and the Dons boss has also given an update on Ryan Jack ahead of the Sky Sports meeting with Dundee on Saturday lunchtime.

An ankle injury has seen Aberdeen captain Jack sit out the last two-matches but McInnes seems quietly confident he’ll be back for the weekend, however when talking to the Official Website he wasn’t as hopeful when it came to Barry Robson.

‘Ryan’s done a lot of work over the last couple of days and he’s more likely to have a chance to be involved on Saturday than Barry Robson, who hasn’t been able to get back on to the training pitch yet so he might be another week.’

The vastly experienced Robson has been sidelined due to a similar injury, which was picked up playing for the U21 side against Rangers recently.

As thing stands Aberdeen are battling with Hearts for second place with the sides jostling at the moment to gain the best place to potentially look to pose a New Year challenge to Celtic, who are starting to open a bit of a gap at the top as they, like many people would expect they will, look to retain the Scottish Premiership.

In a few weeks time though the Dons will do battle with Robbie Neilson’s side in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup with a trip to face Hearts at Tynecastle handed to McInnes’ side on Tuesday.

A dress rehearsal, of sorts, is coming before this when the Jambos come to Pittodrie with Aberdeen already winning away in the league.

McInnes added.

‘There’s not many tougher but, equally, what a tie.

‘We’ll have a strong support down there and Tynecastle always lends itself to a great atmosphere and it’ll be a great game for the players to look forward to.

‘We play them at home in a fortnight and we’ve already won down there but I think both camps would recognise it’s two good teams on their day and it’ll be difficult but I think everyone at Hearts will be saying the same thing.’
