Jimmy Calderwood has spoken out about his admiration of the job Craig Levein is doing at Tannadice and has given his analysis on how he sees the United side lining up today for the clash at Pittodrie.

Thankfully, Jimmy has not given a Michael Hart style critique and is very respectful towards the man who pipped him to the Manager of the Month award for March.

Aberdeen won 4 of their 5 matches in March, the heavy loss to Rangers being an obvious black spot in an otherwise excellent run of results, if not performances.

Levein`s United have turned a bit of a corner since he took the reigns from Craig Brewster in October. Whilst they have always been capable of beating anyone, they were just as likely to lose for a period but Levein has shut the back door and no one is finding it easy to notch against the Arabs recently.

Calderwood spoke of the work his Tangerine has achieved ‘Craig Levein has done well since coming in. He has tightened up the defence, they are organised, and they are growing in confidence.

‘At the moment, they must have one of the best defensive records in the league.’

‘Craig has created two systems at United. He plays 4-1-4-1 or 4-5-1 and they are very solid.

‘The biggest challenge for us is having patience. If United get the first goal it will make it doubly difficult for us. Their success is built on a solid defence and organisation, and they will be difficult to break down.’

The astonishing 4-0 win over Hearts and last weeks more than deserved 1-1 draw with Celtic (it took another predictable free kick by Nakamura to breach the United defence) coupled with a draw at Motherwell and a loss to Caley were enough to give Levein the Manager of the Month title for last month.

Calderwood could argue his case that perhaps he deserved the nod with his side notching wins over Kilmarnock, Hearts, Motherwell and Falkirk with only the Rangers defeat going against him.

Walter Smith may have the most to feel aggrieved about however as he saw his team defeat Aberdeen, Celtic and Hibs and although they only managed a draw to Caley last week, it`s still a very impressive collection of scalps taken, especially as Celtic and Hibs were away.

Jimmy is under no illusion that today`s match will be extremely tough and credits Levein for making United one of the league`s hardest teams to beat recently and is impressed by the former Scottish League Young Player of the Years work as a manager.

Calderwood said of Levein,’He impressed as manager of Hearts but by his own high standards didn’t do so well at Leicester City for some reason.

‘Now he’s doing a great job at United and has been building from the back and they have a good defensive record.

‘It’s going to be a very difficult game for us as they are flying high.

‘United beat Hearts 4-0 at Tynecastle and judging by the reports should have beaten Celtic last weekend.’

raig Levein is undoubtedly doing a solid job but do you think he was deserving of the Manager of the Month Title for March?
