1) Scott Severin – One of Calderwood`s early signings, Severin has now made over 150 appearances for the dons in all competitions. Assuming the captaincy after Russell Anderson`s departure was always going to be difficult and despite some criticism there is no doubt Severin is among the most talented players in the current squad, especially when played in a central midfield role.

2) Barry Nicholson – Was reunited with Calderwood in July 2005 after a £250,000 move from Dunfermline. H e made over 100 appearances in the Aberdeen midfield, excelling particularly in the 2006-2007 season where he put in some impressive performances and scored some vital goals (most notably his equaliser at Tynecastle), as the dons went on to clinch a place in Europe. He also scored a hat-trick against Inverness in the last 8 of the CIS cup at Pittodrie.

3) Jamie Smith- On his days Smith can change games. Signed by Calderwood in 2005 from Dutch outfit Den Haag, Smith`s ability is unquestionable. His claim to the title of “Calderwood`s best signing” may however be hindered by his constant trouble with injury and his relative inconsistency. His late winner against Rangers in 2005 and his goals against Copenhagen certainly endeared Smith to the Red Army.

4) Lee Miller- the Lanark born frontman has led the line well since his move from Dundee United in 2006, having been keen to progress his career by moving to a bigger club. Having spent £225,000 on his services only a year earlier, United let him head north for nothing. Miller netted 13 goals last season, his most impressive campaign thus far.

5) Sone Aluko- The young Englishmen became a firm fans favourite after some sparkling displays while on loan last season. His £70,000 transfer from Birmingham this summer has seemed like a great piece of business as Aluko begins to fulfil his potential, and has arguably been the Dons top player this season. His magnificent goal to put Aberdeen 2-1 up on Bayern will not be forgotten by many who were there.
