Jimmy`s Five Worst Signings

Here is the shortlist I have drawn up to try and decide which of Calderwood’s signings can truely be described as his worst at the helm of Aberdeen Football Club.

1. Dave Bus – Jimmy has not signed
many Centre Halfs during his time at Pittodrie. Unfortunately for Aberdeen however, he did sign Dave Bus. A baker until he was 25, Bus signed in January 2008. He was nothing short of awful and left in the summer after 7 appearances. On a humorous note he was sponsored by a bus company. Alan Paterson of First in Aberdeen spoke of Bus on their website. “We wish David every success in his career with Aberdeen having seen him perform so well against Celtic in February. I have every confidence that he is not a passenger in the Dons team”. Aberdeen lost the game Mr Paterson mentioned 5-1.

2. Dyron Daal – Another of Calderwood`s infamous Dutchmen. Daal initially signed as an amateur in August 2006. The 6FT 4″ striker played only 7 games for Aberdeen, scoring twice. He now plays for Ross County.

3. Dan Smith – Having fractured the leg of Arsenal`s Abou Diaby, left-back Smith signed for the Reds in 2006. He played only 9 matches in 2 years, never threatening to make any sort of impact on the first team. He now plays for Conference North side Gateshead.

4. Jonathan Kurrant – Signed in the Summer of 2007, as an unknown quantity, left in 2008, still an unknown quantity. The young Englishman featured extremely rarely and left in January, allegedly due to homesickness.

5. Jonathan Smith – Another young Englishman who failed to make his mark. He played only once for the Dons (a league match against Falkirk in January 2008). Left in the summer and is now unattached, remarkably was once on the books with Liverpool and Wigan.

Who then is Calderwood`s worst signing as Aberdeen manager? As always, you can have your say on the forum.
