Despite Willie Miller giving us this quote earlier in the week “‘We are not actively looking for another goalkeeper at this stage”, rumours are circling that Aberdeen are keen to bring Kasper Schmeichel to Pittodrie.

20 year old Kasper was a loan signing for John Hughes` Falkirk side for the second half of last season and earned good reports but he has since returned back to Manchester City where his future is uncertain at the managerless club.

Willie Miller does insist that if someone takes the unwanted Langfield off the clubs hands then someone will have to be brought in but at the moment, nothing is happening on that front.

Willie said, ‘We haven’t received offers for Langfield or any of our other players,’

‘Unless that changes we will be going with Langfield, Derek Soutar and Greg Kelly as our keepers for next season”.

Jimmy Calderwood re-iterated the Dons legends comments when he said, ‘I have absolutely no doubt about Derek Soutar’s ability and I’ve got no plans to look for another goalkeeper.

‘If Jamie were to leave then we have to be prepared for that and have a contingency in place, but I’ve got every faith in Derek Soutar.’

Jimmy then updated the Langfield situation and made it clear that he is still an Aberdeen player. ‘There is no question of Jamie being frozen out if an offer that is acceptable to both the club and the player is not made. He will come back to work on June 28 with the rest of the players.’

‘My phone has been ringing with lots of agents offering me goalkeepers over the weekend, but I’m not interested.

‘Derek Soutar will get his chance in the first team, but Jamie Langfield is still contracted for a year and will play if needed.

‘Those two will both play in pre-season games and young Greg Kelly may also get an opportunity to play for the first team in the warm-up matches.

‘I’m comfortable with that and am not in the market for another goalkeeper.’

He then admitted that Langfield has been very remorseful since the incident despite putting on a brave face, ‘Jamie called me on Saturday morning, again showing remorse for what has happened.

‘I told him that, as far as I’m concerned, the matter is closed and that I will see him when he returns to work with the rest of the squad at the end of the month.’

But Jimmy will not want an unhappy player bringing the excellent squad spirit down as a man who played the full SPL season suddenly finds himself exiled to the reserves.

As he has already stated, Jimmy will not be hard to deal with if someone does want Clangers and whilst that is remains the case, the Dons will be linked with many a goalie over the summer months.

But with Jamie`s Scotland squad member status and low fee of £100,000, it would be remiss of Calderwood not to have a new keeper in mind as surely there are many clubs who would fancy an international goalkeeper for that price.

So Kasper Schmeichel is just the latest but would you fancy the son of Man U legend Peter between the sticks next season?
