Jim Leighton’s an Aberdeen legend that’s spent three spells with the club as a player and a coach but his latest, and final, exit was confirmed this week bring an end to 27-years worth of service to the Dons.

His exit was confirmed on the Official Website, a short statement on Thursday read.

‘Jim Leighton has left his position as Goalkeeping Coach with the Club.

‘Jim has served the Club as both a player and goalkeeping coach over three different periods covering 27 years.

‘Derek McInnes commented “I would like to thank Jim for his contribution as a member of my team since I arrived at the Club”.

‘Everyone connected with Aberdeen Football Club wishes Jim all the very best for the future.’

McInnes retained the 56-year-old as part of his backroom staff when he took over but continues this reshuffle with it decided that a new man is wanted as his goalkeeping coach.

Leighton’s now considering walking away from the game and focusing on his other commitments.
