Former Aberdeen striker Steve Lovell is being chased by three Scottish Premier League clubs. Hibernian, Falkirk and Kilmarnock are in the race for Lovell’s signature and it’s the latter it seems is in the lead.

Lovell joined Aberdeen in 2005 from Dundee for a fee of £250,000. He was a favourite with the fans yet manager Jimmy Calderwood’s favourites policy meant he was hardly given a game and was not offered a new contract at the end of last season.

The most surprising thing about that is that Lovell was in fact statistically Aberdeen’s best goalscorer every individual season and overall under Calderwood with a strike rate of about 1 in 4.

His composure in front of goal, ability to seem to be in the right place at the right time and the fact most of his goals were last minute equalisers or winners is what won him over with the red army.

Six months ago Lovell met Scottish singer Amy McDonald and the couple are now engaged.

Whichever club Lovell moves to, undoubtedly he will start against Aberdeen each time, grab a brace each game and run past Jimmy Calderwood with two fingers aloft each goal. And to be honest, I wouldn’t mind if he did.
