‘Aberdeen have confirmed that Oldham Athletic midfielder Gary McDonald has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Pittodrie club’ says the official club website.

I was quite surprised by this signing, mainly due to the facts that:

a) No one heard anything ‘from a good source’.
b) McDonald isn’t Dutch.
c) McDonald didn’t used to play for Dunfermline.

To be honest I don’t really know that much about him apart from that he used to play for Kilmarnock, but a bit of research shows he was at Rugby Park for 5 years, where he made over 100 appearances, before moving to Oldham on a free in 2006.

He has made 89 appearances for the Lactics so far, finding the net 12 times in the process – not bad for a midfielder. His most famous was earlier this season against Everton when he scored the winner from 25 yards in the FA Cup.

McDonald will join the Dons when his contract expires in the summer.
