It’s a shame Jim Leighton’s time with Aberdeen came to an end last week with him informed he wasn’t being retained as Derek McInnes’ goalkeeping coach beyond the end of his current deal.

But unfortunately this, as McInnes points out, ‘is football.’ Things change, and change all the time….

While Russell Anderson took in a lap of honour on his farewell, with his retirement now officially in place, following our defeat to St Johnstone there wasn’t a send off for Leighton after a near 30-year association, over three spells, with the Dons.

McInnes, quoted by the Daily Record, has insisted that he was offered the chance to say his farewells to the club and fans, getting the reception that his service warranted.

Although he’s also revealed that this opportunity was declined.

‘He was a great servant. We offered him his chance to say his farewells to the supporters today but he declined.

‘Things change all the time in football and it’s my job as manager to make these decisions.’
