Manager Derek McInnes has said he wants to build a squad of winners for 2015-16 and he’s also being loosely linked to the vacant manager role at Rangers.

In quotes carried by the Evening Express the gaffer explained that in his search for glory we needed players with a winning mentality and he felt that former Inverness skipper Graeme Shinnie and Paul Quinn would add to that should we be able to get both over the line.

‘To be successful needs ability, strong players, good decisions on the pitch and concentration. However that counts for nothing if you do not have enough winners in your team and players who see the importance of that attitude. It takes a combination of all those factors to be successful and consistent. And those are the players that will be at Aberdeen.’

In other news about McInnes it’s being said that the new Rangers board have him on their wishlist to take over the Championship side, but whether that media link comes from the fact that he played for them between 1995 and 2000 or whether they have a real interest awaits to be seen, as currently they are linked with everyone.

He is contracted to us until the summer of 2017 and having overseen a good campaign this year, whether he’d jump ship and not try to build on what we achieved and close that gap on Celtic even further – well you wouldn’t think so on the face of it given their troubles would you.

It’s not like he’d walk into a club capable of letting him spend his way to competing at the top of Premiership in coming years.

We also have the pull of European football for the second successive year to consider.
