Before the New Firm derby on the weekend the Red Ultras unfurled a large banner reading ‘Miller Must Stay’. I’m pretty certain that was on behalf of the red army as Miller has been outstanding this season.

All you need to do for proof is have a quick glance at the RU Player of the Season poll and you’ll see Miller is currently 2nd (full results and analysis in an end of season article), just 4 votes off 1st.

Miller’s first stint in the SPL was at Hearts while on loan from Bristol City. He scored 11 in 22 appearances which had him on the brink of the Scotland team. Once the loan deal expired it was a two-horse race between Aberdeen and Dundee United to get his signature. But the prospect of European football, and of course not the money, was the difference between him signing for Dundee United and not the Dons. Typically, on his debut in the first game of the 2005/2006 season, Miller scored against the Dons. But, Miller could not find form at Tannadice, scoring just 8 times in 41 appearances. United had a clearout the next summer and after United had bought Miller for quarter of a million pounds, they gave him to Aberdeen for nothing for the start of the 2006/2007 season.

In his first season, Miller scored just 4 for the Dons but proved to be more of the assist man. This season however, it’s been assists and goals galore, 12 to be exact, which has won him over the fans. Miller’s intelligent play, flick ons and lay offs are what has made clubs up and down Great Britain interested.

It’s not just the fans that seem to want him to stay though. In today’s local paper, the Evening Express, captain Scott Severin has made a desperate please for him to sign a new contract.

I definitely hope the big man stays as without his goals and play this season, we wouldn’t be near the top 6.

Altogether now, Miller must stay, Miller must stay, hello hello…
