It looks nailed on that Charlie Mulgrew will sign for Sheffield United once back from holiday this week.

The Dons left-back who’s contract is due to expire is free to cash in on a switch from the SPL back to the English Championship.

Mulgrew who has been attracting interest from Brentford, Huddersfield and Portuguese side Maritimo will be a big lose to Aberdeen.

Since signing from Wolves in July 2008 Mulgrew has netted 9 times for the Dons in 72 appearances. He has been a constant on the left side of Aberdeen’s defence, but it’s his set pieces that will be missed most.

New Dons signing Rory McArdle may be seen as Mulgrew’s defensive replacement and both Foster and Grassi can play at left back, but the lack of transfer fee won’t help McGhee strengthen the squad further.
