Jimmy Calderwood has confirmed the rumours that he has been speaking with Alan Gow but nothing will happen this transfer window because a transfer fee would be involved.

Jimmy will have to wait until the summer but has tested Gow`s ambition to play for Aberdeen by letting him know than he`s a wanted man once his contract expires and becomes a free agent in the summer. This would involve him refusing other offers that may come in during this transfer period and him not allowing Falkirk to cash in.

Calderwood, who has opened negotiations with the former Airdrie United striker, said: ‘It was just a matter of letting the lad know we are keen to sign him.

There are other clubs interested so I was making our sales pitch, emphasising the role I could see him playing at Aberdeen.

Gow is a very talented player and I’m always looking to improve my squad.

But we are only interested in signing him if he becomes a free agent in the summer.

Unfortunately, our finances dictate that we can’t get involved if other clubs come in with bids for the lad this month.’

One player who has signed for the Dons is local boy 17 year old David Ross from Inverurie Locos. The highly rated striker began his Aberdeen career yesterday and will be training with Neale Cooper`s Under 19`s squad.

Aberdeen have given David another chance at the club after they released him when he was only 15.
