Rumours have leaked that Jamie Langfield is a target for Rangers and could make a summer switch to our SPL rivals.

Whilst Jamie is far from a fans favourite, his performances of late have improved which shows he`s learning under the guidance of Jim Leighton and Jimmy Calderwood is not even acknowledging the possibility of “Clangers” making the jump to Ibrox.

‘That is a definite non-starter. I spoke to Walter Smith at length after our game at the weekend and I’m sure he would have mentioned that at that some stage.

‘I’m not interested in letting Jamie leave in any case.

‘Jamie is an important part of our future plans for this club.

‘There has been no approach for Jamie from Rangers or anyone else and we aren’t interested in selling him anyway.

‘He is still under contract for next season but we are hoping to persuade Jamie to stay at Pittodrie well beyond that.’

Since Rangers will be in the market for a new keeper after Stefan Klos announced that he will retire after this season, it`s understandable that Langfield`s recent performances would have him linked to them and Walter Smith has always kept an eye on the former Dundee, Raith Rovers, Partick Thistle and Dunfermline keeper.

Walter Smith admitted that a new ‘keeper will be a priority but made no mention of any names he would like to see come to Ibrox as he said: ‘One area we will need to strengthen is the goalkeeping position.

‘Stefan is retiring and Lee Robertson, like McGregor before him, needs to go out on loan to gain necessary experience of top level matches.

‘We will only have under-18 keepers after that so we may need one or two to come in.

‘Allan McGregor’s record has been excellent but we have to look for cover for him.’

ould you be happy will Langfield going to Rangers and if he does, who would you like to see between the sticks for the Dons next season?
