Aberdeen were the victors in an end to end New Firm derby which keeps the possibility of snatching 3rd spot and a UEFA Cup place alive.
Aberdeen took the lead in the 30th minute through the unlikely source of Ricky Foster. A long Langfield boot out was flicked on by Miller and then De Visscher to send Young through on goal. His shot was well stopped by Zaluska but fell to the feet of Foster at the edge of the box who fired through three United players.
Late in the first half United should have drawn level. Lee Wilkie was left totally unmarked after a floated ball in but his free header from 6 yards was superbly saved by Langfield.
In the opening minutes of the 2nd half Aberdeen doubled their lead through the even more unlikely source of Karim Touzani for his first goal for the club. De Visscher curled a corner into the backpost and Touzani flew in and headed the ball low into the net. He dedicated his celebration to his newly born daughter.
However, less than a minute later United had pulled one back through Danny Swanson. Swanson picked the ball up on the half-way line before walking between two Aberdeen players, shimmying past Considine and rifling the ball in off the post from 20 yards.
A few minutes later Touzani nearly got his 2nd of the match. A crossed ball was headed out only as far as Touzani who in unorthdox fashion rattled the stansion from 15 yards.
With about half an hour remaining a Nicholson corner met with the head of Lee Miller who’s top corner effort was excellently denied by Zaluska.
And with just minutes remaining Aberdeen could have wrapped it up when Young found himself in space on the left but his shot trickled past the far post.
However, the Dons held on for their 3rd home victory in a row and kept European hopes alive.
Generally good performance and made a fantastic save at 1-0.
He’s starting to look like a good player now. Gets really stuck in and can pass the ball about a bit too.
Just the usual really. Not half the player he was last season though.
Played well but turned his back to Swanson allowing him to shimmy past for United’s goal.
Better than usual. Left back definitely his best position. Took his goal superbly too.
De Visscher 7
Running up and down the wing as usual and technically got two assists. Has some skill too.
Another fantastic performance. Shame he’s leaving.
Great performance as usual. Just a pity Calderwood can’t see that. Fantastic header for the goal.
I was unhappy when he came back but he’s been fantastic all season.
Flick-ons, lay offs, all the usual. Hope he stays.
Never rated him. A total fairy with no skill.
Was only on the park for 20 minutes but was as good as always. Should be playing every single minute.
‘Dundee United are a hard team to beat and it was a fabulous game. Craig Levein threw everything at us and they are a big, physical team.’ – BBC Sport
‘We were on the front foot for most of the match but recently we’ve not been able to make the most of our chances when we have been on top. I enjoyed watching us play but the overriding feeling is of disappointment. Not in the way we entertained but because we lost two goals.’ – BBC Sport
