The fate of Richie Byrne’s season will be decided this week as he sees a specialist about the injury to his snapped tendon in his hamstring.

Byrne is thought to be out for at least four months but this will be confirmed by the doctor who he was due to see but was unfortunately out of the country at the time of the injury.

Calderwood rates his Irish left back highly and feels his defence miss 6’1″ presence at left back when he’s not in the side. Since his free transfer to Aberdeen from Dunfermline, he has been plagued with injuries which have not helped him settle and Jimmy’s admiration for the 25-year-old is not totally matched by the club’s supporters.

Since he injured himself in late September, Aberdeen have put together some very good performances and sit joint second in the league. If that continues, Byrne may find himself frozen out for longer than even his injury will exclude him for.
