Adam Rooney was the main winner for Aberdeen when it came to the end of season awards with him picking up no fewer than three awards, which were announced on Thursday at the award evening.

The Official Website confirmed that he was the winner of the Player of the Year award as well as the Players’ Player of the Year with his hat-trick completed with the Goal of the Year award too for his effort against St Johnstone in January.

I think most of us expected him to pick up at least one award but Rooney said that he wasn’t expecting to win one award let alone three!

‘I am very happy. I was not expecting to get one award so it was certainly a surprise to get three.

‘It is great recognition at the end of a long season for myself but it could have been any one of a large number of boys up there getting awards tonight and winning the player of the year prize because we have had so many players who have played at a fantastic level.

‘It is nice to get the award from the players, the guys who you are in training with every day. Also I would like to thank the supporters for voting for me.

‘It is always nice to score goals and the fans like goal scorers. A lot of the praise I have got is down to my team mates. If it was not for them I would not be getting the taps-ins I would be getting!’

Obviously we’ll fall just short of challenging Celtic all the way for the title but the striker is looking to end the season strongly and then looks forward to a good break and another successful season next time round with him looking forward to the Europa League, which gets underway in July.

‘Everyone is looking forward to getting the season finished with now. We have had a good season and we want to finish it strongly with three wins. It would be nice to add nine points before having a couple of weeks off so we can relax and recharge the batteries. It is important we have our rest because it will be another long season.

‘Let’s hope we can have another good year and we are looking forward to the Europa League ties in July.’

Full list of winners are as follows:-

Player of the Year – Adam Rooney
U20 Player of the Year – Lawrence Shankland
Young Player of the Year – Cammy Smith
Goal of the Season – Adam Rooney
Players’ Player of the Year – Adam Rooney
