The man who gave the player who many regard as the greatest Scotsman ever to kick a ball his first pair of boots has died aged 68.

George Geddes was Denis Law`s neighbour and he was the person to give the future European Footballer of the Year his first proper footwear, a pair of his old boots when the two lived by each other in a council tenement in Aberdeen’s Woodside.

George followed Denis` career closely and cheered him as he played for Huddersfield, Manchester United, Torino and Manchester City. George was in West Germany for the `74 World Cup where Denis played his last game for Scotland.

But George was an Aberdeen man and a staunch supporter of the club. He founded the Northern Lights Supporters Club which helped fans to travel with the Dons through Europe. He was there to witness the Gothenburg success and all the great trophy wins of the 80`s.

George had his own successful life as a top businessman but the friendship Denis Law and he lasted and George was one of the surprise guests on Denis Law`s This Is Your Life TV episode.

George was buried today and Joe Law, Denis` brother commented that ‘Denis is really saddened by George’s death.’

Our condolences to his wife Nan, sons Stephen and Paul and daughters Loraine and Yvonne.
