The Scottish FA have confirmed they will be investigating the coin throwing incident in last week’s clash with Celtic.

A home fan threw a coin at Celtic captain Neil Lennon. The referee missed the incident but Lennon picked up the coin and presented it to him and it will now be investigated.

The Dons fans were angry with Lennon who allegedly clenched his fist at them after Celtic’s equaliser.

This is the latest in a string of incidents at Pittodrie. Only last season a fan was convicted of spitting on Rangers midfielder Fernando Ricksen. Ricksen was also subject of an attack the previous season when a fan ran on the park and aimed a kick at him.

There was also trouble between Aberdeen and Rangers fans a couple of seasons ago when Rangers fans threw coins at Robbie Winters and a section of the Aberdeen fans charged at the Rangers fans, some of them attacking an elderly Rangers fan.

Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood said: ‘It is disappointing, it has nothing to do with football.’
