The word is Scott Dobie is the man who Jimmy Calderwood is planning to bring in to fill the Craig Brewster void but an other player rumoured to be leaving will not please Dons fans one bit.

Dan Smith and Jamie Langfield`s place in the squad have been under threat all summer but it`s the name of Steve Lovell that will have the supporters fearing for the success of their club this season.

Lovell is without a doubt the most popular striker at the club and supposed interest from his home town of Bournemouth was rubbished during the summer but it`s resurfaced and now Yeovil Town and Southend United are also said to be in the hunt with £100,000 being the asking price. The latter will have a representative at today`s reserve match with Hibs before progressing with an offer.

Although the Red Army will be furious if Lovell is allowed to leave, Calderwood is optimistic that 6 times capped Scott Dobie is the man to get goals for Aberdeen and he`s very excited about the prospect of securing another full internationalist on a free.

He said to Reds Online, ‘We could yet make it a hat-trick of internationals, you never know,’ he said.

‘I’ve have a specific striker in mind and all I will say at this stage is he is younger and quicker than Craig!’

‘We could have three new faces by the end of this week, it all depends on what happens the other way.

‘I can’t name those leaving until I’ve spoken to the players because some of them don’t even know about it.

‘But we have a few irons in the fire and I hope to progress things a bit further over the course of today.

‘A couple of clubs have expressed interest in players of ours. But I have to speak to them before I decide if it will be worth doing any deals.’

One lad who could be a possibility is ex Liverpool, Man City and Wigan striker Jonathan Smith who is up on trial and feature against Livingston tomorrow after already having a training session with the first team.
