Those who are old enough to remember, will know that today,6th Feb,is the anniversary of a very sad day in the history of Manchester United Football Club.

Today is the day that they lost their Busby Babes in the Munich air disaster on Feb 6th 1958.

The United team had gone to play Red Star Belgrade in the European Cup quarter final and fought out a thrilling 3-3 draw after winning the home leg 2-1.They had also beaten Arsenal 5-4 at Highbury on the 1st of Feb,so spirits were on a high but this would soon change after the events of that night.

The plane had tried to take off and on it’s third attempt it had failed and crashed through a boundary fence and split in half.

Roger Byrne,Liam Whelan,Geoff Bent,Eddie Colman,Mark Jones,David Pegg and Tommy Taylor died and 15 others also lost their lives, coaches and journalist’s among
the dead.

15 days later the young darling of the Old Trafford crowd,Duncan Edwards also lost his fight for life.

Matt Busby was to spend three month’s in hospital but he came out to rebulid the club and take them on to European glory in 1968 beating Benfica 4-1 at Wembley.

On the 6th of February a team died but their spirit lives on strong today and will do forever more !

Former Dons boss Sir Alex Ferguson, also lead the Club to European Champions League success in 1999 when the club beat Bayern Munich 2-1 to clinch the treble for Fergie.

The Dons have played United a few times and have had players leave Pittodrie for Old Trafford,Leighton,Buchan,Strachan etc so their is a link
there.

So I would ask every Dons fan and football fan to take a moment out today and spare a moment in thought or prayer for the team they called,The Busby Babes !

God Bless Them !
