The return of Dean Windass?

An abundance of rumours suggest Dons hero Dean Windass, now 39, will make a return to Pittodrie in January, 10 years since he left the reds. And chants of “Deano`s coming home” and “There`s only one Deano” at Tannadice last Saturday show the way much of the red army would react if Windass were to join up with Aberdeen for the second half of the season.
Having scored the goal to send his hometown club, Hull City, into the premiership for the first time in their history, Deano has not yet started a game this season. And the veteran hitman has made it clear he wants to play regular football, even if this means going out on loan.
The evening express recently quoted Windass as having said:
“I was flattered to read Joe Harper say the club should take me back on loan. They have to ask the question before I can answer.”
There is no doubting Windass`s quality and goal-scoring ability, over 200 career goals is good by any striker`s standards. Gates may also improve if Windass were to be signed. The question is: Would Calderwood sign such a controversial character, if it turned out the money was available?
Calderwood was not giving anything away when he spoke to the evening express:
“You have to consider every option,” he said.
“We know about Dean`s situation – and have done so for the last three weeks.
“It would be wrong to say to Dons fans at this stage that we will definitely sign Dean.
“It`s also a few weeks before the transfer window opens again, so you never know what sort of options might be put in front of us.
“But I know Dean is a big hero with a lot of Aberdeen fans and they would be delighted if he came back.
“I also like the lad. I spoke to him in the summer, when Dean wanted Aberdeen to provide the opposition for his testimonial match.
“I also spoke to Dean`s wife before that and she made it clear she would love it if he came back up to Scotland.
“I certainly wouldn`t discard the chances of that happening at this stage.”
So what do you think? Just a rumour? Or will Deano sign? And if he does, what sort of impact will he make?
