Derek McInnes has told the Press & Journal Danny Ward’s loan arrival at Aberdeen is a ‘win-win’ for all concerned, which it is!

Ward came in on a season-long loan from Liverpool in the summer and has, at this stage, established himself as the Dons’ no.1 with the natural confidence he’s got in his own ability helpful anyway, but the more games he plays the more this grows and the better he’s becoming.

McInnes, of course, went on to thank Brendan Rodgers once again for this loan and feels the fact Liverpool did loan the Welsh international to us shows the faith he has in our ability as a club too.

Playing, as he so far is, week-in-week-out, is what Ward needed with us not only giving him Premiership experience but also Europa League action too.

The Dons boss did admit he’s mindful he’s still young, very young for a ‘keeper especially, and we might have to take the rough with the smooth but we’ve got a more than able footballer on our books this season.

‘We are now giving him the benefit of playing in games like Sunday’s match, as well as European games. He’s rewarding us with performances, so it’s a win-win situation.

‘We are mindful he’s still young, he’s still got a lot of experiences to go through, good and bad. But we certainly feel we’ve found ourselves a goalkeeper who’s more than capable of doing the job.’

Ward’s not doing bad at first-team level for a ‘keeper that prior to his move to Pittodrie could only class a handful of appearances with an English League 2 side, Morecambe, to his name is he!
