Ah, look at that table. Beautiful. Leading the way are the mighty Aberdeen, ahead of, but not by much, Celtic, while Dundee United occupy the UEFA Cup spot. On the other hand, Rangers are hovering just above relegation and Hearts are currently pipping city rivals Hibs to the final top 6 spot by the letter E.

If only it could stay that way.

For with Jimmy Calderwood, Aberdeen have never had the greatest of starts to the season, excluding attempt number one. In 04/05, come September, we were sitting in 2nd by the most minute margin. In 05/06, come September, we were 6th, although an early victory against Rangers for the first time in nearly a decade made up for it. In 06/07, come September, we were 4th, and had been knocked out of the CIS Cup by amateurs Queen’s Park. In 07/08, come September, we were 6th, after a horrible start which saw 0 wins in 4.

But this season, I just have this feeling that this is our year. The season that we can get that good start and build upon it, rather than trying to make up for a bad one. We open at home to Inverness, who have never beaten us. And with the bonus that it is at home, it should blatantly be a win. After that we travel to Motherwell. And we saw what happened to us after qualifying for Europe, so hopefully the same happens to them. Another win as far as I’m concerned. Then Rangers visit Pittodrie, having not won here for over 2 seasons. With the new look Dons squad, and with it being at home, a win? Of course. And finally, St Mirren away, well, win again for me.

Come September, we will be top of the league, mark my words.
