When Ricky Foster pinpointed the ball onto the head of Darren Mackie who bulleted the ball past the helpless Kernozenko, it was impossibly not to think about the extreme similarites between that goal and that goal. I know comparing Ricky Foster to Mark McGhee and Darren Mackie to John Hewitt is like comparing the Pope to Harold Shipman but the correlation of the goals is spooky to say the least.

So, as said an infinite number of times already, a great week for ‘Scottish’ football all round, with Rangers giving Lyon a hiding on their own backyard and Celtic once again justifying ‘Fortress Parkhead’; Scott McDonald coming up with the goods to give them a 2-1 victory over the reigning European Cup holders that are AC Milan.

Minutes after the final whistle, the inevitable thread – when’s the group stages? – appeared on every Dons messageboard on the net and after a bit of digging we can confirm the draw takes place on Tuesday at 11:00 BST.

So it’s back to normal on Sunday, playing host to Saint Mirren at Pittodrie where hopefully we can boost the goal difference, climb into the top 6 and regain a few players’ confidence!

Darren Mackie will likely have been given a contract for life after scoring in Ukraine so don’t expect too much effort from him. Unfortunately the influential Jamie Smith and ever immobile Chris Clark have been ruled out but Jackie McNamara is hopefull and we may finally see some pot magic from the England under 19 international Sone Aluko who also faces a late fitness test.

Maybe, just maybe, a few stayaways will return for this fixture and hopefully one or two of the notorious boo boys will give it a break and not jeer while the team list is being read out.

A magnificent win on Thursday with some fine defending, attacking and quick thinking. The buddies arrive on the back of three consecutive defeats and that should explain my outrageous prediction of 4-0 Aberdeen.
