One wet and windy Gothenburg night,a little known Scottish team called Aberdeen took on the might of Real Madrid in the Final of the Cup Winners Cup,not many gave the Dons a chance but this is a Scottish football story that had a happy ending!
The Dandy Dons had already knocked out the mighty Bayern Munich on route to their date with destiny.
But if the Dons fans thought that was the greatest night in the history of Pittodrie then this night would be the greatest in their club’s history.
Aberdeen won the match by 2-1 with goals by Eric Black and super sub John Hewitt and sent their fans wild with delight in the wet Swedish night and back home in Aberdeen.
It was a night that will never be forgotten by any Dons supporter,so whatever you are doing today, raise a glass for the boys of 83,they deserve it !

I can’t say I remember the match. AT least English and Scottish teams are having more of a say in Europe these days.
That was a great year for you and a fantastic few years when Fergie built that team to compete with the Auld Firm.
