A chance to get back on track had to be viewed ahead of this game with Pawlett’s ball into Hayes seeing him shoot across goal as Aberdeen threatened with Shinnie denied a goal with his volley by a fine save from Dundee United ‘keeper Szromnik.

Chances didn’t come that often for the visitors but Fraser passed up a great chance for Dundee United when he failed to hit the target.

The breakthrough, which was really needed with the reaction to it proving how important it was, came in the second half minutes after the interval with Rooney (52) heading in from close range from a Hayes cross.

Once again Fraser had a chance as he threatened, Ward was an onlooker as the Dundee United mans effort went just wide.

Hayes (73) sealed the points, picking the ball up on the left, going forward before firing past Szromnik into the corner to round off the win and ensure that Aberdeen got back to winning way with the final minutes more comfortable than it could have been.
